BEla BartOk, Works for Violin and Piano: Volume 1 (Blue Griffin BGR 373)
The album is the first volume of Plum’s complete collection of works for violin and piano by Bartók, with her longtime duo partner, the pianist Timothy Lovelace. It contains the Second Sonata, both Rhapsodies, the Hungarian Folk Dances and the Romanian Folk Tunes. Plum and Lovelace approach these works of early modernism both with a sense of their place in the tradition of violin and piano duo repertoire as well as their relationship to the many new works they have performed together. Music for a New Century (Blue Griffin BGR 371)features world premiere recordings of concertos by the American composers Christopher Adler and Sidney Corbett. Plum presented
the North American premiere of Sidney Corbett’s violin concerto “Yaël,” at the Chamber Music Midwest Festival in Osceola, Wisconisn in June of 2011. Plum found this live recording of the performance, with Akira Mori conducting to be so haunting and expressive that she decided to release it on a CD. In 2012 she commissioned Christopher Adler to write her a violin concerto to pair with Yaël. Plum recorded this piece with conductor Nicholas Deyoe and San Diego New Music in September of 2014 at the baton. ($15 plus shipping)

Considered one of the leading voices in today’s music, the highly-prolific Corbett – protégé of the legendary György Ligeti – enjoys a career of international stature. His musical voice is a juxtaposition of a deeply unique, contemporary language and a profoundly haunting, inward-looking beauty. This CD of world premiere recordings offers music of his spanning 2 decades, most of which was written or premiered by Plum.
